Which disinfectants do you prefer and why?

Disinfectants -- Which do you prefer and why?

    • Wysiwash (and what detergent do you use with it?)

    • Accel/Rescue

    • Trifectant (or the like)

    • Something else?

we use rescue which we like because of it's fast acting capacity and it's increased effectiveness on organic matter, however as it foams we cannot solely use this- it makes our wet/ dry vacuum system blow up with foam! so we also use clean break (as we have rubber floors) which does not foam but requires extra time to sit for effectiveness. both are very good with odor control.

We have used Accel/Rescue for over 4 years now.

Many of our shelters use Wysiwash, they think it does a good job but the best part is NO mixing. Simple for everyone to use.

Some use Rescue only when faced with an outbreak (parvo), primarily due to the expense of using it daily.

Yeah, for sure -- the "daily Wysiwash" with the "occasional Rescue" seems to be a great way to save some $$$. Thanks for joining the conversation!

We use Accel/Rescue and love it. Relatively low on fumes with relatively short contact time and very effective.

We use Rescue Disinfectant and are very happy with it.  We also use a light mixture of bleach 1x a week (we have industrial fans in each room which pulls the fumes out through the ceiling/roof).  And, for everyone who is active on Social Media, our group just won a free year supply of Rescue from the company because we participated in their contest.  This will literally save us thousands of dollars and I encourage everyone to participate in this contest.

We use Rescue, as well, in our high traffic, new intake areas, quarantine and isolation. On our cat side, we use trifectant.

I've used Wysi, Watch Dog, Kennelsol, Trifectant, Accel/Rescue and of course bleach water solution throughout an 8 year period in sheltering.

Wysi's one pro for me was that it took away the human error part when it came to mixing, unless the capsule wasn't opened and water drained out after using.  I found out that not draining the capsule would tend to give a higher concentration at the beginning of spraying and not draining also "ate" the product away a good deal faster.  Cost wise Wysi is definitely friendly and I think application wise is fairly easy for staff, but the efficiency for staff was definitely a con - changing in and out of foamers/sprayers, having to utilize a different product for outbreaks, etc.

Watch Dog and Kennelsol I like to lump into the don't use category of my sheltering experience. I didn't see either product really staying on top of outbreaks nor did there seem to be an effective or efficient manner in which to apply to kennels.

Trifectant seemed to work ok with the felines, but there seemed to be room for human error when mixing.

Accel/Rescue I adore.  It the one stop cleaning shop for a shelter or animal organization. Easy protocols for staff to follow, including daily use and outbreaks.  Easy application. With the correct dispenser in place, limited room for human mixing error.

Hi Everyone - in our cat rescue we use or have used 1. Bleach 2. Accel 3. Trifectant 4. Rescue and all seem to work for the purpose we intend.  But   . . . . we just won a years supply of Rescue by entering their contest #rescuemyshelter and we can't believe how much money we are going to save with a product that we already trusted.  I would encourage everyone to enter this contest and try to win.  It came with a 30 Gallon Drum of Rescue Concentrate, 12 canisters of Rescue Ready to use wipes, 1-gallon bottle of Peroxiwash Animal Shampoo and the drum pump accessory.  The best part is they covered shipping too! Every other week for one year they are picking a winner.  We are a small rescue and we were chosen, give it a try, you'll save yourself a lot of money if you win.

Hi Victoria, more info: Million Cat Challenge put the contest out there, we won the Rescue Disinfectants through Virox Animal Health.  I think the contest might still be going on.  They are most active on Twitter.

I've been using WysiWash for several years now and it has proven to be a quality product. I've seen a significant reduction in outbreaks and other viral issues. The company also has a newer product called Effersan which is also a dissolving tablet and can be used in spray bottle applications for more detailed cleaning of cat cages, etc. I like to disinfect and clean kuranda beds with Effersan.

We use Rescue and love it! We had tried many other products before but staff seemed to have sensitivities to most of them The main thing I like about Rescue is that it eliminates the need to degrease prior to disinfecting as it does both. I saves time and resources in the cleaning process. Staff love it and we have had nobody complain of fumes, etc.

What is latest word on Kennelsol? I just learned in tech school, that quads are no reliable parvo protections. My clinic uses Kennelsol. Manufacturer says not all quads are created equal, and claims it is effective against parvo. Any independent statements here?

WysiWash has proven to be a life-saving solution for our shelter.  We use wsyiwash in our large dog kennels and Rescue in our spray bottles for disinfection of our small dog, puppy, and cat/kitten cages.

I am very keen on Accel/Rescue for canines and felines. It does a great job fighting disease, it is easy to clean with, and it doesn't have a strong smell, but it does come at a high cost.

Has anyone experienced any chemical reactions with using rescue accel diluted on plexiglass on Shor-Line cat condos? The product seems to be leaving a residue on our plexiglass doors

Chris - sorry to hear the surface disinfectant you're using is leaving a residue behind after applying. Your post caught my eye this morning since I follow the Facilities & Operations topic. I just created an introductory post about our company and I think you might be interested. We help facilities meet their environmental safety, disinfection and biodefense needs. All without the need for staff maintenance or application. We will never leave a residue either...

If you have a moment, check out my post from earlier.
